How to play

🎯 The objective

Cabrón is a card game for 3 to 8 players based on Tute, played with the Spanish deck. The goal is simple: don't complete the word CABRÓN. Each hand, players in the middle zone of the scoreboard get a penalty letter: C, A, B, R, O, N… and the 7th turns the O into Ó, so whoever completes CABRÓN is eliminated. The game ends when only 2 players are left standing: they are the winners.

🃏 The deck and card values

The 40-card Spanish deck is used: Coins, Cups, Swords and Clubs, with Ace, 2 to 7, Jack (10), Knight (11) and King (12). Cards have points (what they're worth in your hand) and strength (who wins the trick):

CardPointsStrength
Ace11The strongest

King43rd
Knight34th
Jack25th
7, 6, 5, 4, 20In that order

🔄 Tricks

In each trick every player plays one card. Whoever opens can play any card; everyone else, in order of priority:

  1. Follow suit: if you have cards of the led suit, you must play one, and beat the highest card on the table if you can.
  2. Trump: if you don't have that suit but do have trump, you must play trump (and beat it if there's already one on the table).
  3. Free card: only if you have neither the led suit nor trump.

The trick goes to the strongest card of the led suit, or to the highest trump if trumps were played. Whoever wins the last trick gets 10 extra points.

🎵 Calling forty and twenty

At the start of each hand there is no trump. If the King and Knight of the same suit fall in a trick, whoever wins it makes a call: forty if there was no trump yet (that suit becomes trump and scores 40 points) or twenty if trump was already set (scores 20).

🥇🥈 Who gets saved each hand

At the end of the hand both extremes are saved: the player with the most points and the one with the least. Everyone in between gets a letter, and at least one player always does. On a tie at 0, only those who didn't win any trick are saved (the “clean 0”).

💀 The sweep

If one player takes every trick of the hand, it's a sweep. With an even number of calls (or none), everyone else gets a letter; with an odd number, the letter is theirs.

⚖️ The revoke

If someone doesn't follow suit while holding it, anyone can call a revoke: if it's real, the offender gets a letter and the hand is cancelled; if it's false, the letter goes to whoever called it.
